Other factors worth knowing
Only two winners had run at the Cheltenham Festival, finishing 7th in the William Hill Trophy and second in the Cross Country, when there was an unusual four-week gap between the meetings. Of the 62 who finished 9th or worse at Cheltenham, only 2 horses have made the frame at Aintree.
None of the 92 French-bred horses have won, though 6 have been placed.
The 72 horses to wear headgear have produced one winner and three places.
Since the declaration of tongue-ties eight years ago, one has won, one was placed, and 30 have been unplaced.
All 6 Irish winners of the Grand National had run over hurdles on at least one of their last two starts.
Six horses have been placed at 40-1 or more.
