Sandown Racecourse Topography
The diagrams below show the topography of Sandown Racecourse, both the outer course and the completely seperate 5 furlong course in the middle.
Sandown 5 Furlongs

The 5 Furlong course at Sandown is run on a completely seperate course, in the centre of the overall racecourse. It is a really stiff 5 furlongs, uphill all the way with the last furlong being particularly steep.
Sandown One Mile

Sandowns main course finishes with an extreme test of stamina. As can be seen above the last 3 furlongs just keeps getting steeper and steeper. It is a common site to see horses with a seemingly unassailable lead being caught close to the line as the hill takes its toll.
